Singer-songwriter Shout London has been taking the world by storm with his own original songs, plus some sensational covers of chart-topping hits. I spoke to Tyler (aka Shout London) about his plans for the coming year, and how he creates his music.

CB – Hey! Thank you so much for taking the time to talk to me today! For those who haven’t heard of you before, can you introduce yourself?

Tyler - HEY! I’m Shout London from Sunny Orlando Florida. However, feel free to just call me Tyler. I’ve been making pop rock under the name Shout London since 2013 and there’s no plan on stopping!

CB – I see on your FB that you do a lot of covers! I have listened to the cover of Wiz Khalifa (feat Charlie Puth)’s “See You Again” and it is just superb! Any more cover versions in the pipeline?

Tyler - Taking a song I love and making it my own is about as fun as playing a favorite video game to me. I can spend hours at a time and just plug away at a recording to make it my own. When selecting a song something has to stand out in my head for me to put the time into it. For instance when I heard “Say Something” on the radio… I thought, "dang this song really gives me the feels and it’s peaceful… Wouldn’t it be brilliant with screamo?” So I went into the studio, collaborated with a screamer and now there is a badazz version of Say Something online with screaming in it. You’re welcome world! Some new covers I’d love to do are ‘Free Falling’ by Tom Petty and ‘Kiss Me Slowly’ by Parachute.

CB – Do you have any gigs planned for 2016, or any new music due for release this year?

Tyler - 2016 will be a year of writing, refining and redefining my sound. I am not looking to stray away from the Shout London you hear now, but I am ready for the next chapter. And no matter what that chapter is it will be well done.

CB – I see that you have a band with you whenever you go touring! Whenever you are recording in the studio, do you play all the instruments yourself? How do you go about creating your music?

When I go into the studio this is what I do. I bring a lyric sheet with the song structure on it. This sheet is super organized. Most of my songs are in 4 4 so I even make notes of parts with no singing… on a lyric sheet... So if that’s the case maybe it’s just an organized piece of paper. Other than that I’ve practiced the song a bunch of time on my acoustic. When I get going with a producer we organically flow off each other to create the musical composition you hear in most of my songs. I play a majority of the songs and am the writer, but my producer has a big effect on sounds. Collaborating is one of my favourite things!

CB – What do you make of the music scene in Orlando currently? Any good alternative/pop groups from there we should check out, bar your good self of course!

Tyler - My favorite part of the Orlando music scene would have to be the venues and the people who work their butts off to run shows. Backbooth will always be my favourite place to perform and if you’re ever in Downtown Orlando go catch a local or touring act. The place has a great vibe!

CB – What got you into singing in the first place?

Tyler - I’m a shy guy, kind of. I guess the older you get, the less you care about that kind of stuff. Well after going to my first local show when I was in middle school I quickly realized I didn’t want to be in the audience. I wanted to be on the stage. So I started forming my own bands. When the band had to decide on who sang I kind of volunteered just to get things moving and to play shows. I was able to push through my shyness to get what we needed done to be able to perform. Plus because really my background in shower and riding in the car singing made me pretty darn sort of ok-this-will-work-i-think??? Well anyway I began singing. Singing very bad. Then slightly better and so forth. I am still working on it to this day!

CB – Finally, do you have any messages for fans of Shout London?

Tyler - Fans, friends, people who hate me and like my music which i don’t what category to put them into so i made this… here is my message to all of you. Stay in school. Work hard. Don’t get caught up in drama. If your heart breaks, fix it. Love yourself. Be yourself. Don’t stress too much and strive to be the best you can be. Oh, and I will do my best to write more music!
