Edinburgh metal band Perpetua have been extremely busy already in 2016, and I caught up with them to see what else fans can expect from the band this year!

CB – Hi guys! So, for anyone who hasn’t heard of Perpetua, can you give us a little introduction?

Perpetua - Hey! We are Perpetua, a five-piece metal band from Edinburgh for fans of Machine Head, Lamb Of God, Parkway Drive and While She Sleeps. We combine traditional style heavy metal instrumentation and vocals with our own unique modern influences!

CB – Now, I see that your EP “Resistance” was released on April 30th this year! How has the response been to the EP from your fans?

Perpetua - The response to Resistance has been incredible so far! We’ve had many compliments on the songs which have led us to making a lot of new friends, may that be fans or industry professionals. We are overwhelmed by the amazing feedback we’ve had since the release and we’d like everyone to stick around for our next one.

CB – And you just toured at the start of May if I’m not mistaken? How was the tour, and have you got any more plans to tour in 2016?

Perpetua - Tour was quite the experience… We started off with a near sold out home town show in Edinburgh to then arriving at Dundee and snapping our ignition key for the van upon arrival. Waited outside all night to get a locksmith to cut us a new key and then drove 8 hours straight down to Cardiff and then Swansea! After that it was amazing fun, with a couple days off we went exploring the cities, Wales is such a beautiful country and we loved playing there. We made the most of the rest of our day off by going to Laser Tag, a trampoline centre and an indoor water park. After that we made our way back home stopping off at Bradford and Workington on the way for our last shows. We’d like to give a massive thanks to Perception who came out on tour with us and thanks to all of the promoters with whom we worked with! At the minute we can’t disclose any information on future tours, but keep an eye out on our page for more info!

CB – In terms of the studio time you guys have, do you use one particular studio or engineer for all your work? How does a normal recording session pan out for you guys?

Perpetua - We always go to our good friend Steven Jones who happens to be the guitarist from Glasgow based tech metal band From Sorrow To Serenity, you should definitely check them out. A normal session usually includes us doing a large chunk of recording, messing around for a bit having a laugh and then trying to do the rest whilst we wolf down a Chinese…

CB – What else can we expect from you guys in 2016? Any festivals you are playing at or attending?

Perpetua - Sadly we’re not playing any festivals this year, there’s always next year though! A couple of us are heading down to Download Festival to check out some bands including our Edinburgh friends The Amorettes! If you’re at Download you should definitely check them out!

CB – Edinburgh is listed as the band’s hometown on Facebook. I must admit I haven’t had a lot to do with the Edinburgh music scene. Do you guys think that the music scene, and particularly the metal scene there is good?

Perpetua - The Edinburgh metal scene is crazy sometimes. It can often be oversaturated with the same bands playing too often or go through a phase of our strongest local bands breaking up all within a short time of each other! (RIP HUTH and MSAT). At the minute, Edinburgh is starting to pick up due to the amount of touring bands stopping through bringing a fresh face to the scene every now and then! We expect to see it get a lot better over the next year, there are some great local bands, some great venues and some amazing people!

CB - Finally, do you have anything you want to say to fans of Perpetua?

Perpetua - Thank you for sticking by us throughout the long time we took to get back on our feet and finish Resistance. Your support means the world to us. We can only say that Resistance is the beginning and you will begin to see a lot more of us. See you all soon and remember to stay in the loop!
