If you are a fan of metal or alt. rock in the Scottish music scene, then there is going to be a good chance that you have already heard of the fantastic "Servant Sun". I was lucky enough to be able to catch up with bassist, Will Keogh, about their time as a band and also their studio process.
CB - Hey guys! For those who havent had the good fortune to listen to you guys, can you introduce yourselves?
Will - We are Servant Sun, a 5 piece Alt.Rock/Metal act from Glasgow.
CB -So you are a Glasgow based band! How long have you all been playing together as Servant Sun, and who would you say your biggest musical influences are?
Will - The band has been together since late 2013. Musically we are influenced by bands like Incubus, CKY, Alexisonfire and Karnivool. Probably a million more but i would say that those are the main ones.
CB - I see that you guys are unsigned! How do you find funding things like studio time yourself?
Will - Yeah we are unsigned so studio time is funded by lots of overtime at work. Obviously things like merch sales help but generally its all of us putting money aside from each paycheck.
CB - On the subject of studio time, do you have a specific studio that you use for every recording, or do you find yourselves moving from studio to studio?
Will - We dont have a specific studio that we use as of yet. I think we are still looking for the right studio and producer that will compliment our sound. We have a few in mind for the next release though.
CB - When you are in the studio, how do you find your time there? Give us a little insight into how a
typical recording session for Servant Sun goes.
Will - We all love being in the studio, its great hearing noises you have created in the rehearsal room being made into something awesome. The process is always drums, guitars, any leads/overdubs, bass, vocals, harmonies/screaming parts. Then any extra parts afterwards.
CB - Tours this year? Music Videos? What can we expect from you guys in 2016?
Will - We have just released our E.P ‘Hundred Waves’ & done a 13 date UK tour. We have a few awesome announcements coming really soon regarding shows & we are already looking into releasing something brand new later this year.
CB - Do you enjoy the Glasgow music scene? I’ve always thought it was one of the best in Scotland, so it would be nice to hear a band’s perspective!
Will - Scottish scene is insanely good. So diverse and impressive. We are really digging Twin Heart, Vukovi, Blackwork & Megalomatic just now.
CB - Finally, do you have anything you want to say to fans of Servant Sun?
Will - That we fully appreciate everyone who has came to a show, bought merch or had any interest in us. It means the world to us. Also thank you for the interview.
